Big Move

Yep, We did the big move this summer. We went from Boise, Idaho to Eugene Oregon. Things are very different here. For one, there are trees everywhere. That makes squirrel hunting much easier, but way more time consuming. Also, Eugene is a real cat town. There are cats everywhere. They are under cars, in driveways--just everywhere. Somedays, we don't know whether to hunt cats or squirrels, so we end up going in all different directions.

Our uprights have been very busy with the move and starting a new job and going back to school. They haven't had the camera out too much. In fact, we went to the coast yesterday, and they didn't take a single picture of us playing in the water (just getting our toes wet) or climbing logs, or hunting in the tall grass.

However, a few weeks ago, we did go on a nice hike up a butte south of town. We made it to the very highest point, and dad snapped a picture.

Here are a couple of us on the way up:

Also, there is a really cool cemetery near our house that lets dogs walk through it. It's great because it is left in a really natural condition. Unfortunately, there is this certain type of bush

that leaves really nasty, black, hooked seeds in your scruffles if you stick your head in it.

We will remind them to take more pictures, so we can show you our new life.

Tennis Anyone??

This weekend daddy played some tennis with Grandpa. Grandpa is a really good tennis player; he used to coach and give lessons. Well, the tennis court is next to Grandpa and Gramma's house, so they just leave the gate from the yard open. We got to play a little tennis, too. Sometimes we would jump and catch the balls. Mostly, though, we just collected the balls and took them into the yard. Notice how our side of the court is virtually ball free!

The only thing better would have been playing on a clay court. We hear clay is perfect for digging!

Super-Dooper Catch-Up Post

Yes, it has been a very long time since we have posted. Today, we aim to catch-up!

April showers?!?!?!

Hmmm, we thought that meant rain.

Apparently not, as this was what our yard looked like this morning:

Big News

Soon, the our Blog title will change to: Oregon Airedales.

That's right. This summer we are leaving Boise for Eugene, Oregon. Mum got a new job there, and Dad will be getting more education.

Fluffy Puppies

We got our new spring hair-cuts. But before we trotted off to the doggie barber shop, we posed for a few shots. Aren't we lovely and wooly??

Yes, it is the return of mud season here in the Treasure Valley. The weather has been warm lately (around 45*).

The best part about mud? Digging!!!

Of course, Boatey prefers finding a stick to digging.

Yes, hiking and mud make my day!

More Fun in the Snow

This weekend was great. First, on Saturday we made a new friend and went snowshoeing. Our new friend is a German Wirehair Pointer named Raina. She is still a rambunctious little puppy, but she was fun to play with.

We didn't go as far this time. Instead, we went just outside of Boise. We were on an old logging road just past the treeline in the Boise National Forest. Here is what Boise looks like from the trail:

By the time we finished snowshoeing, it was starting to snow. The road at the trailhead is really nasty. It is the only road up to a ski resort outside of Boise (Bogus Basin). Right after we left, there was a nasty car accident that shut the road down for a long time. Fortunately, we made it off the hill no problem.

The next morning it was still snowing, so our humans took us to our favorite park. It has lots of trails through the hills, and we can run free. We had a great time!

Yes, it was a great weekend!

I'm a Little Teapot, Part II

So, the humiliating weigh-in has occurred.
Results:
Sadie +4
Boatie +3

I have been informed that this means I must loose about 4 lbs, and Boatie is good, but could still gain 2 lbs or so.

We shall see what this means . . . .

It might mean, they are more careful to not set down the whipped cream bowl:

I'm a Little Teapot

Well, we went to visit our aunti and uncle yesterday. They have tons of toys and three English Setters. They even gave us a great squeaky toy to take home.

However, since the vet said to put a couple more pounds on Boatie, we have been getting lots of extra treats (now, I am not complaining, just stating the facts). Well, uncle Greg saw me and thought I was a little tubby. Mostly, I am convinced, it is not excess poundage, but is instead my luxurious winter coat.

Mom promises that tonight I will have to get on the scale--how humiliating! In the mean time, she has given me a new theme song:

I'm a little treat-hound
short and stout

Here is my handle,
here is my snout.

When you get the treats out hear me shout,
ARRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUG

By the time she gets done grabbing my tail and tuggin on my beard I leave in disgust!

So, we shall see how life progresses after the great weigh-in of '08.

Updates later. . . . .

Happy Birthday Sadie

Today is Sadie's third birthday. As her mum, I thought we would celebrate with a bit of a "This is your life" -type photo montage.

The pictures of Sadie the breeder sent us. Who wouldn't fall instantly in love with that pup?!?!?

Sadie spent her first few days with us playing and lounging. Come to think of it, that is still how she spends her days!

Here is Sadie trying on her doggles (they help protect her blind eye when we hike through tall grass). Isn't she stylish?

Sadie also graduated (twice) from obedience. Once on her own and once as a repeat to make it easier on Boatie!

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention a few of Sadie's favorite activities.

Helping with yard work,

playing on the beach,

hiking,

playing in mud puddles,

chewing,

and sleeping!

Happy Birthday Sadie!!!

New Years Eve Snowshoeing

For New Years Eve, we went snowshoeing with our Mom, Dad and Grandpa. We went on some trails in the mountains north of Idaho City. It took us about an hour and a half to drive there, but the long ride was worth it. We love snowshoeing!!!

For a while, we stayed on the trail.

But then, getting off the beaten path and bounding through the lovely, deep snow was just too tempting!

By the end of the trip, we were so happy and tired, we slept the whole way home and skipped our usual evening walk.

Happy New Years!

Lastest weekend, wes got to see our cousin otis. He came'n for an overnight visit! He is a very cute lab puppy:

Course, even though he's just a puppy, he's 'bout as big as me-n-Sadie!

He's awso very special--He only has three legs! He jumped from a wearry high thing when he was little, and shattered one of his legs. (his daddy, our uncle, tried to catch him, but couldn't. that made him wearry sad for a while, til Otis got better).

That doesn't matter, though, cuzen he is fun to play wif!

Awso, just so everyone knows that my mum is fair--she let's boff me-n-Sadie on the couch wiff her. I wuv it!

November

Well, November was a very busy month. We had no time to blog. First, our parents went to SLC for a weekend, and left us with Gramma for the weekend! Gramma has a nice big back yard and golfers come by to visit. I sometimes go sit by the green and wait for treats, but Gramma doesn't like this and makes me come back in the yard.

The next weekend, Mom, Gramma and we took a very long car trip. We drove all the way to Sheridan, Wyoming to visit our uncle Michael and his two dogs, Oreo and Zip.

This is the three of them:

Oreo is a nine year old JRT.

Zip is just a little blue heeler mix puppy. She was only 12 weeks old on our visit. She sure is cute, and she would try to herd us around her house.

Then, the four of us to another long car trip. We drove from Sheridan to Denver, Colorado to visit our aunt Amanda (she doesn't have any dogs). We stayed in a motel room. It was great; we got our own bed:

Then, Gramma left back to Boise on a plane, and our daddy flew in. We spent Thanksgiving at our great-aunt Cher's house. It was great. The best part is---IT SNOWED. I love the snow, see:

Of course, aunt Cher has a doggy named Chachi. She is a really old pomeranian. She does not like to play with us, but I tried. She wouldn't even let me cuddle on aunt Cher's lap with her.

Things were pretty fun. We got to see our uncle Bo (he's the one who taught me to take naps on the couch). He likes Boatey and me, too.

Of course, sometimes things were boring:

After the festivities, we drove all the way back to Boise in one day. That was a very long day, and we were all very tired. I decided that a nap with mom was in order:

Cheers,
Sadie (and Boatey)

Airedale or Pekingese???

Wast nite, is kepted putting my paw by the compooter twying to bwog, but Sadie was hoggin it. Just cuz she camed fwist--sheesh.

Anyway, wast night we wented for a vewy nice walk in our favorite park--the one wif the waterin hole from an earlier blog. Well, we wunned into a guy and hearded him talking to mum. Hewe's what he said.

Guy: Are your dogs brother and sister?
Mum: No, they are both female and are not at all related, just the same breed.
Guy: Well, the Pekingnese are such a nice breed. They are very cute. (The he walks on).

I noticed mum turned and watched him go wif a funny wook on hers face.

So, whenen we's got home,i 'cided to figwure out why mum thoughted that guy was so cwazy.

Here is a pekingese:

So, no wonder mum thoughted that guy was so cwazy! We are Airedales, and Airedales are nothing like Pekingese!! See:

Catching up (with lots of pictures)

Okay, mum has been very bad about getting the pictures off of the camera and onto the computer so we could blog. We had a couple of posts started, but have since decided to abandon them in favor of this rather long post.

So, Boatey learned a new trick--eating from a kong.

(Boatey: man, these thingies is gweat. They's fulls of yummmy stuff. I nevwer knewed that life could be sooooo good! Why didn't I's catch onto this sooner?!?!?)

This development has upset me greatly. Previously, mum would fill two kongs with peanut butter, cottage cheese and kibble, but Boatey would abandon hers, leaving me with two delictable treats. Now, I am left to suffer with a single kong:

Of course, I still manage, somehow, to enjoy my measly, single kong:

(Mum's note: the kongs are a bribe--they give me a few minutes to do yoga without the dogs running between my legs and licking my face)

Now, earlier this week, we had a lovely hike. It had rained all weekend, but the sun came out just in time for the hoomans to go back to work. Fortunately, mum loves hiking almost as much as we do. The trail we took is one of my particular favorites. It has lovely depressions along the way--perfect for catching rainwater and creating PUDDLES. Now, I do not get too excited about much, but I LOVE PUDDLES. Well, on Tuesday, Boatey and I got way ahead of mum when we knew a puddle was coming up. When she couldn't see us, we played a lovely game of biteyface. Our particular version of bitey face involves attempting to swallow the other's face and then flipping her over. We had a lovely time. Then, an awful thing happened. When we got home, mum decided to bathe us! She muttered something about mud clods hanging from our furnishings and having just vacuumed. I don't see a problem, but she seems to think she is in control!

(mum's note: The only way to bathe Boatey is to get into the tub with her. She is still terrified of running water. We suspect someone turned a hose on her as punishment or that she was left under sprinklers when she was left in a kennel by her previous "owner." This bath went pretty well. I was able to just sit on the edge of the tub with her between my legs as opposed to having to sit down in the tub and hug her tight while her papa shampooed her all up! Yeah Boatey!!!!)

Surprise

Our friends Ellie & Harley gave us a great surprise!

This helped get us throught waiting for dad. He is now home safe and sound. (Don't worry, he gave us lots of pets and scratches to make up for leaving us all weekend.)

We have decided to pass this on to our Boston Buddies, Ozzie and Rocky!

We miss our Daddy!!

Our daddy left for the weekend to wisit wif his famiwy. He's calwwed us wots, but it's not the sames as havin him heres to pway wif us. Wast nite, mum took us to the doggie pwark. It was fun, but when daddy wasn't home whenen we gots back, it was wery, wery uspsettin!!

My sisdale, Sadie, just went n pouwted! Seees what i mean:

i's waited fur daddy a looooooooooooon time, but then my eyes gots wearry, wearry heapy:

Mum says dad will be back tomorrow. I cant's waipt.

Boatey

I love stuffies

It is well established that I love stuffies. Yesterday, after a lovely romp at the dog park, I decided to relax with my collection.

Cheers,
Sadie

(mum note: sorry about the photo quality. Dad is gone for the weekend, and he took the camera with him. We girls have been forced into using a camera phone)

Saturday was a no-good-very-bad day (but Sunday was fun)

To be fair, Saturday started out as a lovely day. Dad took us to meet up with some doggie friends. It had rained the night before, so there were plenty of good, dead worms to roll in!! Boatey found a great spot and guarded it fiercely--she would even let our buddy Joey (a pom) near it! He was smart to leave--Boatey's mouth is larger than his entire body.

Then, something awful happened. The hoomans decided we needed groomed. Boatey is finally learning that grooming does not equal death. She looks lovely in her new do:

My story does not have such a happy ending. Now, I do not mind the clippers, but I detest the scissors. There is simply no reason that those horrible things need ever come near my face. However, as I tried for the one-hundredth time to let my parent know that I HATE scissors--well, the most awful, dreaded, horrible event happened. Mum's hand slipped as I was tossing my head in disgust. I went from this magnificient, gorgeous, beautiful 'dale with tremendous scruffles:

To this:

Now, Mum claims it needed to look like this because at least this look is even. I am almost so humiliated that I don't want to leave the house. Almost.

On Sunday evening, the hoomans coaxed us out of the house with the promise of a hike. We adore hiking. This was just a quick hike on some off-leash trails at a park in town.

However, it wasn't very busy, so we could play chase.

And we got loads of pets along the way!

Also, near the end of the loop is a delightful waterhole.

So, as you can see, this weekend was like an oreo. The outsides were good, but the middle was something entirely different.

Cheers,
Sadie (who cannot wait for her hair to grow back).

Carnage

Now as you know, we girls like our stuffies. However, sometimes our baser instincts kick in and we much de-squeakey a stuffie or two. Please note: Graphic image follows. Younger viewers may wish to leave the room.*

*no real animals were harmed in the making of this blog, but one stuffed hippo suffered a decapitation!

yoga dales

After work, our mum comes home and plays with us for a few minutes. Then its into the living room for yoga. We love the living room, but sometimes it is just hard to let her have enough peace and quiet to practice her yoga. Instead, we want to practice!!

Of course, our mum has taught us that the most important part of any practice is svasana (final relaxation).

Car Game

Maggie and Mitch tagged us to play this very cool game.
It's what kind of vehicle you are; you have to think of what type of vehicle your personality most resembles.

Sadie: Although knowledgeable about most subjects, I was uncertain about this particular subject. I view cars as a means to transport me to amusing places and never consider their personality. Therefore, I consulted with my father. He promtply said that I was a:

I am lean and love to run. Plus, I am the kind of dog that makes people turn their heads for another look.

Boatey: I's luv cars. They's the bestest thing in the whole wide world. I love riding in them, letting my head hang out the window, my earses fwapping in the breeze! I also askded my daddy what kinda car I should be. He said:

He wasn't sure if I should be black or silver, though, so I choosed silver. I runs soooooooo fast, I looks like a streak, and silver seemed more likes a streak to me's.

Hi-Jinks (Again)

Recently, I've decideded that the toes of white socks are yummy--clean or dirpty, they's yummy. Well, last night my daddy slipped a nice fresh pair into his bag. He left the bag ons the bedroom floor and it wasn't zipped. After the lights went out ('cept for my nightlight--gots to have that 'cuz i's scared of the dark), i slipped off my bed and took that bundle of socks.

Course, I was foiled. Before I could have my mid-night snack, daddy slipped out of bed and noticed me "cuddling" the socks. (it looked all cute, but I was just warming them up so's they'd taste yummier!)

Boatey

(mum's note: yes, Boatey really is scared of the dark. She would pace and refuse to sleep at night. Then, after a visit to her gramma's, where there is a nightlight and she slept all night long, we put a night light in our room. Now she lays down and sleeps all night)

Hi-Jinks

Well, I've improffed on a game my sisdale Sadie taughted me. You see, every afternoon mom comes home and puts her walkin clothes on the bed while she hangs up her work clothes. Now, a longlonglonglonglonglong time ago, I leart that it's okay to grab her socks off of the bed and then make her try to take them. (BTW, she gets rearry mad if you do this wif her pantyhose or suitpants when she's gettin ready for work. I don't like whenen she goes to work, but she says she has to pay for our dog food somehow. Neither Sadie or I's do this game wif work clothes--We's very smart 'dales and we know the difference. )

Anway, on to the improffments. Yesterday, I grabbed the socks, but then I spotted something white underneath. Now, I have seen mom put this on under her shirt, and I know she wears it walkin. I figured, if'n socks are fun, wouldn't this thing be fun to take. You got it. I grabbed it in my big white teef and danced down the hall. Mom started to call my name, and tell me to get back--but NO!! I was dancin round the island in the kitchen, with my mom's BRA in my mouf. I tells you, it was a fun, fun,fun game. I wonder if she will leave it one the bed again soon, so'in I's can make laps wif it?

(Mum note: there will be no pictures of this incident, as I wasn't about to become a topless photographer!! By the time I got my shirt on, she had dropped the very slimey undergarment on the kitchen floor and returned to the socks)

Monday, August 20 was my A-day. Yup, it's one year since I came to live wif these nice people and my sisdale, Sadie. To celeprate, my momma took us to the pet store, and we gots to pick out new toys!!!! Yeah, I luv the pet store--it has lots of good smells and nice ladies who pat my head.

Well, we gots two indoor toys and two outdoor toys. First, we got two stuffies: a baboon that squeaks, and a dog that squeaks, too. I love the baboon:
Of course, Sadie loves stuffies more than me, so sometimes she hogs the new stuffies:

Moftly, though, we share the toys. Particularly the outside ones. For outside, we gots a new Kong Wubba, and a ball-ropey thing. Heerwe's me wif the Wubba--it's sooooo fun to chew!
Heerwe's me wif the rope thing. It's lotsa fun to chew, too!

And heewrwe's me and my sis--Sadie. We luv to play in the yard.

Lots of Firsts

Well, August started off right. We got to take our first camping trip--to the Oregon coast. That means not only did we sleep in a tent for the first time, we also saw the ocean for the first time. We were not so fond of the ocean--whenever mom or dad tried to get in, even just up to their ankles, we barked like mad until they came out.

Because a pictures is worth more than words, here are the highlights.

Notice the cool stream by our campsite. One night, there was a family of raccoons on the other side. We chased them off with our strong barks--aaaaaarrrrrrouhhh! We are such good 'dales.

Running in the sand was tremendous!

Of course, being Oregon, it was very windy!

We loved chasing each other.

And getting drinks after we were done.

Finally, we had the best time exploring everything on the beach!

July was Busy!

Hi! Sadie here. Boy, was July busy. First, our daddy's aunt and uncle came to visit. We were kinda bummed though, because they didn't bring their Pomeranian, Chachi, to visit. They were nice, but we couldn't visit them in the guest room.

After that, our cousin, Lilli, came to visit. She's an 8-year old hooman girl. We liked her. She gave us lots of treats and pets. She loves animals and wants to be a vet. Fortunately, we didn't need her services!

Here is me with Lilli:

We also got to spend a weekend with our grandparents because Mom and Dad took a trip four their anniversary.

Yes, July was very busy!

We'll be back soon to update you on our new experience--camping by the beach in Oregon!!!

20 (some) Questions

Our mommy found this on another blog--but it looks fun to play. A great way for you to get to know us!!

4. Who is your favorite person other than the people you live with?

Boatie: I'm stwill not too sure about ofer people, but sometimes if a lady looks nice she can scratch my scruffles (cheeks and beard).

5. How much do you weigh?

Boatie: I weigh 48 pounds, but that's 12 more than when I came to live in this nice pwace.

6. Most expensive thing you’ve ever chewed up?

Sadie: I only chew appropriate dog toys. (Mom: this is true, Sadie came with inherent house manners and, I know this is unbelievable for a 'dale, was never much of a chewer).

Boatie: I like to chew left shoes--mommy and dad both have a pair of hiking shoes with no left heal!!!

7. Do you like other Dogs?

Sadie: Yes, I love other dogs!

First Introductions, Part II

Hey, this is Boatie. I know Sadie said you could here more about her life as a single 'dale, but I wanted to introduce myself. I came to Idaho last August. I'm what you call a rescue Airedale. My parents don't know much about my life before, and I don't like to talk about it, but here is what I can tell you.

I lived in Wyoming before my original "owner" gave me to rescue. I didn't have much of a life. He was trying to breed all black Airedales, but I didn't come out black enough for him. I spent all of my time locked in a kennel outside, and I didn't get enough to eat. He finally gave me to rescue. Here is what I looked like then--my ribs stuck out!! You can also see how scared I was. See, back then, I didn't know that humans could be good and nice.

My parents have taught me a lot. Now I know how to walk on a leash and be nice to other dogs, rather than scared. Now I know what toys are, and I can jump really high in the "aire" to catch balls. I also have a pink frog that I like to carry around the living room--but he lives there, so I never take him out of that room.

I also know that there will always be enough food, so I don't have to guard my bowl and growl (I think Sadie is thankful I finally learned this trick). They even took me to obedience class--I know to put my butt on the ground when they say "Sit" and I know to keep all four feet on the ground when they say "stand." I also learned that they really like for me to be on their left-side. They worked for weeks on this trick--they called it "heel." Now, I am so good at it, that I always find their left side--even if they haven't said "heel" and we aren't on a walk. Here is my graduation picture:

I also have favorites--I love to go for walks. I love the dog park where I can run as fast as I can. I like to hike, and I love to cuddle. As you can tell, I am doing much better than I was last summer.

First Introductions

This Blog is all about us--the not-quite-right Airegirls who live in Idaho. I should probably explain why we are not-quite-right. That is a long story, so this first blog with cover me, Sadie. After all, I came to Idaho first, even if I am the younger of us two, and was the first not-quiet-right Airegirl.
You see, my upright parents bought a house two years ago, and were thrilled to finally have the space for a dog. As a gift, my upright mom's father was helping them find a dog. He called several times, each time suggesting a different breed of dog. Each time, mom and dad turned him down. Then came the fateful phone message. Dad played it first, but because mom had been so reluctant he expected another "no." Instead, once mom heard that her father had found an Airedale, she turned to dad and said: "what do you think?" They checked their email, and saw this adorable picture of me first:

But they knew that something was wrong, because they saw this picture next:

As it turns out, my left eye had been punctured and now I am completely blind on that side. Don't feel sorry for me though, it hasn't slowed me down at all!!

For a while, my mom and dad tried really hard to protect the eye as much as they could. However, I am not an Airegirl willing to make a fashion statement.

I really disliked my "doggles," and took them off every chance I could. Now, my parents let me run free, but the price I pay for my finicky fashion sense is nightly eyedrops.

That's enough for right now. Later, I will tell you more about my life as a single 'dale, and then you will get to meet the other not-quite-right girl, my sis--Boatie.
